San Antonio-based Villa-Mex Imports Inc. is under some criticism as high amounts of lead have been found in its syrupy candy. The candy that the company have asked people to discard is called “Barrilito”. While no short term sicknesses have been reported, a long term effect on children has been known to cause growth issues when being exposed to large amounts of lead over a period of time.
Lead that was found should not scare anyone to not buy candy from Mexico. Most of it is safe and has been eaten for a very long time by people in the US and Mexico. However, the wealfare of children should always be an attentive thing for parents to keep notice of no matter what. Especially what a child is eating can have greater consequences than on a adult.
